For many years the Section had been headed by professor Krzysztof Majka, who created the unit and organized its research program.

The scientific activity of the Section of Electrical Engineering and Automation includes investigations on utilization of:

  • hybrid systems of renewable heat energy sources
  • non-conventional sources of energy in the systems for preparation of warm utility water;
  • micro-processor measurement techniques in automation of agricultural technological processes;
  • electrical energy in agriculture, including predicting of its demand.

For scientific and teaching purposes, the Section is uses the following laboratories for: PLC controllers, electrotechnics utilization, automatics and hybrid system for acquiring energy from renewable sources, and solar measurements. They are equipped with modern control and measuring systems, which are systematically modernized. Due to the projects spon¬sored by Committee for Research Projects (KBN) and the funds from Foundation of Polish Science, as well as due to cooperation with Institute of Fundamental Technological Problems (Polish Academy of Sciences) and Faculty of Environment Engineering at Technical University in Lublin, development of various investigations is possible. They include investigations on: control systems, simulation of operation of various equipment used in agricultural engineering and food processing, as well as investigations on non-conventional energy sources utilization.

Section organizes conferences on the issues of non-conventional energy sources.

Professor Stanisław Pabis was the first Head, who shaped the research profile of the Section.

Scientific activity of Section of Mechanics and Thermal Engineering has been focused on the following problems:

  • improvement of technologies for drying and storing of agricultural products;
  • systems engineering and optimisation of production processes in agriculture;
  • intelligent systems for decision making support;
  • investigations on plant materials properties.

The research and didactic basis of the Section consists of specialized laboratories for: computer science and computer graphics, computer network, agro-physics, drying room, being a back-up facility for conducting research projects and teaching.

Drying Laboratory is equipped with dryers needed to carry out investigations (heat chambers with no air flow and with forced flow, dryer with vertical flow, tunnel dryer, fluidization batch dryer and fluidization flow dryer). The measurements on plant material physical properties are carried out in Agro-physics Laboratory.

Section receives financial support to carry out investigations on agricultural product drying and storing processes from Ministry for Science and Higher Education (Committee for Research Projects (KBN).

Section organizes annually the conference "School of Science Methodology".
